The N.W.A. biopic Straight Outta Compton faced criticism that it ignored misogyny within the group. Former radio host Dee Barnes and R&B singer Michel’le both came forward to voice their concerns. A new Lifetime biopic Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Me promises to tell Michel’le’s side of the story.

Michel’le aka Michel’le Toussaint released the 1990 hit single “No More Lies.” She was signed to Eazy E’s Ruthless Records and later became Dr. Dre’s girlfriend before becoming romantically involved with Suge Knight. The film’s promo suggests a different perspective than Straight Outta Compton offered. It begins with the tagline, “Behind the men who changed hip-hop is the woman who knows the truth,” before the actress who will portray Michel’le in the film, Rhyon Nicole Brown, steps into frame and peels a ‘Parental Advisory’ sticker off her mouth.
R. Marcos Taylor will reprise his role as Knight after playing the mogul in Straight Outta Compton. Actor Curtis Hamilton will play Dre and actor Jamie Kennedy will be music manager Jerry Heller.
Surviving Compton: Dre, Suge & Me debuts in October.
